Ten:
I took Penny out, and I swept my car. Then I drove us through the downtown traffic of the central shopping district. My back seemed to twinge in pain as we drew closer to the courthouse. Penny was exceptional at remaining silent. She seemed more than a little nervous, yet she was not fidgeting.
Katie had not wasted any time in breaking her novice habits. Her eyes were more studious of our environment. She appeared to be tracking the streets we passed. I could even feel the tangible layer of tension one expects in an action-prone human. Penny was developing the feline sense of prowl and pounce. I could see she had grown more than one could expect in a few weeks. Yet, her supple and soft curved body spoke of how truly similar her body still was. I still remembered her very taste on the tip of my tongue.
âSorry for all the charades, but I assume someone is listening, always. Weâll talk once I get us off the road.â
I explained softly, and Penny seemed more curious now. Since she was reasonably certain I wasnât here to hold a boom-box over my head like some archaic eighties romance gesture of personal shame. (To be fair, I had considered this option a few times.)
âSure, I guess if someone went through all the trouble to blow me up, Iâd be pretty paranoid as well.â
She said, her tone was casual, but I gleaned the fishing expedition in her tone.
âNice try, honey. If I knew you a little less, maybe that would have worked.â
I winked at her casual flirtations. Penny seemed to pout slightly. Her lips were delicious, thick, tempting. Everything about her was inviting and delightful. She was the lesbian young adult all-encompassing temptation. The perfect mixture of downhome, and city smart. All of this bestowed upon one single slim package with exceptional cleavage.
âHow are you feeling, Gina?â
She asked earnestly this time. I shrugged slightly and said, âWas a bit hotter than advertised, but Iâll live. Thankfully, no nasty facial scars from the explosion since it hit from behind.â
I explained, and she seemed to bite down on her lip and study my posture. She appeared to be looking to see if I was slack or slumping in pain. Which I wasnât, of course. Even if I were in soul-breaking agony, Iâd never allowed it to show.
âI was supposed to be at court that day, but my thing got pushed.â
She said casually, and I filed that information away.
âHow are you doing in narcotics? Do you like it there?â
I asked her, and she smirked and said, âNow look who's fishing for information.â
I snorted and said, âBully me for my cop fetish.â
Penny wet her lips without thinking. Her response spoke volumes about how much she seemed to still think of us. Even if I couldnât possibly hope to wrestle an honest answer from her about why sheâs been so distant. Nothing in her body language told me she was disinterested in me. I am not a man.
